You've heard of Carbon Offsets, but What About Life Offsets?

The massive expansion of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) on the U.S. Gulf coast, according to a study by the Sierra Club and Greenpeace, has caused 60 deaths and approximately a billion dollars in medical costs. The carbon emissions from these LNG facilities will also push the world past the climate brink.

We conjured a frighteningly realistic but deeply dystopian company called Repaer (Reaper backwards) whose mission is to offset lost lives by extending the lives of others. Life Offsets - the new carbon offsets.  Then we announced that Venture Global LNG, a company who has violated its air pollution permits over 2,000 times, invested in life offsets through a website , and a direct mail outreach campaign. Repaer also got in on the action by creating postcards and a video for one of their programs called 'Plasma Pals' that encouraged parents to sign their children for a life extension scheme that had children donate plasma to older, wealthier recipients who would also serve as the child's mentor.

This caught the attention of The Lens, a terrific independent New Orleans based publication, whose story was subsequently syndicated statewide by NPR affiliates, all spreading the message that LNG kills.
